You take out your rifle to shoot the German, and he dies. You grab the papers, and make a run for your home trenches— and you have the luck to avoid all the mines and snipers along the way.
The papers, unfortunately, are not valuable, and, when translated, turn out to be letters the German soldiers were sending home. But hey, at least you're alive.
